Final Reflection

Upon completing my inquiry project, I wanted to reflect upon the process and my next steps in learning. While compiling resources for my databases, it was easy to find teachers who created resources for each of the technologies in the form of blogs, videos, etc. It was more difficult to find scholarly articles that related directly to the technologies and the integration of them in ELA. In my group discussion with Giulia, we both expressed this difficulty and concluded that technology needs more time to be appropriately researched and scholarly reviewed.   The final project for each of my technologies is a database that includes solid resources that range from scholarly articles to YouTube videos. Each of the resources included in my databases includes a brief summary and important notes. I also elected to include the resources that I found that did not answer my distal goal. The reason for this is that I wanted to show that I was regularly reflecting on my distal goal...

Self-Reflection #1

At this point in time, I have been able to locate resources for two of my three databases on robotics kits and 3D printers. The resources I collected were diverse and included teachers' blog posts, online videos and scholarly journal articles. M y proximal goals have been motivating me to keep on track and stay ahead of schedule. An area of struggle that I experienced was trying to find resources for my third database on laser cutters. As a result of my unsuccessful searches, I decided to change my third database from laser cutters to Minecraft Education.  A possible support that would assist me in my project completion would be to see examples of others SRL projects in order to further my understanding of my project.  My skills in SRL have been increasing throughout this project, especially in terms of my reflection. Throughout this project, I have been regularly reflecting on what makes a resource appropriate for my database versus what does not. Moving forward, I ...

Database #3 - Minecraft Education & Student Engagement

Introduction (07/22/2022):   Halfway through the 2021-2022 school year, my school decided to invest in a Minecraft Education Server for our students. I had no idea what this meant, but I was interested to know how it may further engage my students. Before this, my students had been participating in Minecraft Education on their own devices and saving their work locally to their laptops. I learned that a Minecraft Education Server would allow them to save their work to essentially a cloud system, so that the whole school could see what they had completed. This seemed like a meaningful opportunity to collaborate with the whole school. So, now I am curious how other ELA teachers have meaningfully integrated Minecraft Education into their classrooms. The end goal of this research will be to create a database of resources for ELA teachers to consult before integrating Minecraft Education into their classrooms.    Update (07/25/2022):   After completing some researc...
